Apply to dry hair and scalp (30–60 mL for short hair, 60–90 mL for shoulder-length hair, 90–120 mL for long hair). Allow product to remain on hair and scalp for only 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Repeat in 7 days.

  • May cause local irritation. If contact with eyes occur, immediately flush well with water.
  • Not recommended for infants or children younger than 2 years of age.
  • Resistance to product is unlikely as it has a physical mode of action.
  • No data on safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Spray carefully all over dry hair and close to scalp. Massage the solution well into the rest of the hair until all the hair including the tips is completely covered. Leave solution on hair for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, comb the hair with a lice comb. Allow the solution to dry on the hair for at least 8 hours and then wash. Repeat after 8–10 days.

  • May cause local irritation. If product accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse immediately for 10-15 minutes with water.
  • Not recommended for infants or children younger than 2 years of age.
  • Should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding mothers.

Wash hair with regular shampoo, rinse with water and towel dry. Apply permethrin to saturate the hair and scalp (25-50mL); leave on for 10 minutes then rinse. May repeat after 7 days if live lice are observed.

Adverse Effects

  • Permethrin 1% belongs to a group of medications called synthetic pyrethroids, which are insecticides. Permethrin 1% works by paralyzing lice, killing them and their nits (eggs).
  • Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth and other mucous membranes as well as wounds and broken skin. This product may irritate your eyes. If applying routinely, wear gloves to avoid irritation. In case of contact, rinse with plenty of water.
  • Not recommended for infants or children younger than 2 years of age.
  • May temporarily exacerbate the pruritus, erythema and scalp edema of lice infestation.
  • Burning/stinging, tingling, numbness or scalp discomfort are usually mild and transient.
  • Permethrin 1% should not be used by anyone who is allergic or sensitive to permethrin, any synthetic pyrethroid or pyrethrins, ragweed, chrysanthemums, or to any of the ingredients of the medication.
  • Permethrin resistance may result in treatment failure.

Apply just enough lindane shampoo to make hair, scalp, and the small hairs on the back of neck wet. Leave on hair for exactly 4 minutes. Keep your hair uncovered during this time. At the end of 4 minutes, use a small amount of warm water to lather the shampoo. Wash all of the shampoo off hair and skin with warm water. Dry hair with a clean towel. Use the nit comb to remove nits. If live lice and nits are still seen in your hair 7 days after treatment, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. Do not treat with lindane again. You may need to use a different product.

Adverse Effects

  • Should only be used when other treatments have failed or in patients who cannot tolerate other medications that pose less risk.
  • Swallowing lindane may cause dizziness, seizures, and death.
  • When too much of this medication is absorbed through the skin, it can cause seizures and rarely, death.
  • Lindane should not be used during pregnancy. Women who are pregnant should also avoid applying lindane on someone else.
  • Children are at an increased risk of absorbing too much lindane into their bloodstream. If possible, a safer option should be used in children. Lindane is not recommended for use in children under 6 years old.
  • Seniors may be more at risk of experiencing side effects from this medication. Seniors should speak with their doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.
  • There may be an interaction between lindane and other medications. Tell your doctor or prescriber about all prescription, over-the-counter (non-prescription), and herbal medications you are taking.

Apply to thoroughly saturate dry hair and massage scalp/skin; leave on for 10 minutes. Add a little water; work the shampoo into the hair and skin to form a lather. Rinse thoroughly. Use a nit comb to remove dead lice and nits. Repeat treatment in 7 days to 10 days.

Adverse Effects

  • Pyrethrins – piperonyl butoxide should not be used by anyone who is allergic to pyrethrins, synthetic pyrethroids, chrysanthemum, ragweed, or to any of the ingredients of the medication.
  • Few adverse effects, although contact dermatitis and eye irritation have been reported.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product.
  • The safety and effectiveness of this medication have not been established for children under 2 years of age. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product on a child under 2 years of age.
